300 (18A)
I love Gerard Butler
and I will watch him in anything, which is why I went to see "300" on opening
night with Gaye who's even more mad about him than I am and sat with a
sold out audience of primarily teenage boys and the odd over 40 woman like
ourselves who went there solely to gaze upon Gerry's buff bod. I
liked Zack Snyder's "Sin City" but I absolutely hated "300". The
only interesting thing about this movie aside from how incredibly pumped
up and six-packed the Spartan warriors were is that Brazilian beauty Rodrigo
Santoro who played Karl in "Love Actually" portrayed Persian King Xerxes
and I would have never recognized him in a million years!
I cannot fathom what
could have possibly drawn the fabulous Gerry Butler to that piece of shit
script other than he just wanted to challenge himself to the physical demands
of the role. Unfortunately for him, although his body was unbelievable,
his hair and beard were atrocious (you could tell the beard was fake) and
his striking blue-green eyes were nowhere to be seen. The dialogue
was among some of the worst ever filmed and while the movie was visually
stylistic I do prefer to watch a story that's filmed against real scenery
and not blue screen with everything except the actors and their costumes
painted in with CGI. It was everything I could do to keep my eyes
open throughout the amazingly boring battle scenes and even more boring
scenes between Lena Headey and Dominic West back in Sparta at their council
meeting. Furthermore, Snyder has no idea how to film a love scene
and the brief one between King Leonidas and his Queen was also dull and
void of passion although the actors did manage to get the point across
that these two loved each other. So much for the Greeks helping to
usher in the world's first democracy…yawn…I will never waste over two hours
of my life watching that movie again.
