A Home At The End Of The World (14A)

This is very complicated story of passion, jealousy and the illness that one's sould travels through when dealing with the realm of human relationships. Let me start with something that left me a bit stranded; the end seemed to be a bit abrupt. I did not expect it to end so quickly.

I think this was a movie that would surprise some people because of its complexity. I think a lot of people went into watching that movie wondering if it was a homosexual movie or how big is it really. But I don't see it as anything like that. I think Colin's character was just looking for that unabashed, belonging kind of love. He lost everything around him, which pretty much left him alone, but he was determined not to be alone so he found the positive in everything around him and didn't let personal tragedy bring him down. This is quite a departure from Colin's other roles but a good step in the right direction for him.

This is, in my opinion, Colin Farrell's best work to date, giving off such vulnerability to the character lost in the midst of the multitude, just wanting to be loved and accepted for who he is, probably falling prey to his own guilt trip after the death of his older brother, early on in the movie. It would not be unexpected if he were nominated for an award...though this may not happen. besides him, Robin Penn Wright is giving a wonderful performance as well. The characters don't have to speak at times, and yet you can sense the intensity of the silent dialogue they are conveying. Great acting!
