| Acrobat
brings the sounds of the Montreal indie scene alive with their debut album
“The Unbelievable Truth”.
I first
saw Acrobat when they opened up for Bullmoose’s cd release party here in
Kingston. As some bands there is the live sound and then there is the album
sound. On the album there are only three members of Acrobat but when I
saw them live they added in another guitarist. You also loose out a couple
of the different instruments when you see them live but it didn’t really
make that big of a difference in their live sound.
“Emotionless”
is the first track off of the album. This song is my favourite song off
of the album. The vocals almost have a European sound to them. After hearing
this song live and hearing it on the album I prefer the album version the
best. I like the opening to the song because of the piano at the starting
of the song. It seems to grab and pull you into the song. The vocals are
mixed throughout the duration of the song they have a pop sound and then
mixed with a bit of alternative and rock styling.
“Unbelievable
Truth” is the third song and is also the title track off of the album.
The song has a melodramatic feeling that flows throughout the song. This
song is what I would call a mood type of song, the song has a flowing tempo
that trails throughout the duration of the song with the tempo rising and
slowly slows down and then rises up again. To add a bit of character to
the song the vocals tend to stay on the softer side with a little hint
of high vocals.
“Life
Support” is the seventh track on this eight track album. The song starts
off slowly for the first thirty seconds with a very soft but medium pace
guitar being played. As a couple of their other tracks the song has its
ups and downs in the tempo, at about the three minute mark the speed and
sound of the song almost drops right out but picks up for the ending of
the song. By using this technique throughout different songs to me it really
adds character to the album.
