| The
newest rock band that has caught my attention is based out of the Ottawa
area called BLACK JU-JU.
Their
CD Universal Asshole was originally released in 2002 but was only given
to me lately by their newest drummer Steve Scott (S.W.A.T. / Arayaseyes).
Thanks Steve this is a great CD.
The
album starts off with an incredible song entitled “Night & Day” which
has all the elements of a great rock song. With the album now getting my
full attention the second song “Brother of Another Mother” has my speakers
vibrating. Now we begin.
The
album as a whole is pure rock bringing me back to the classic hard rock/metal
sounds of yesterday. I love this album and would say anybody who loves
the old style metal/hard rock would also enjoy adding this album to their
collection as my first thoughts of hearing this album was I would of sworn
I had heard elements of a Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow songs within this
album but after listening to it for awhile I settled with another great
band from my past, Kiss.
The
guitar work inside the album is incredible and the lyrical content is well
written only adding to the over all chemistry of the bands material. I
definitely love the song “I Can’t Wait” and can only say one thing. “You
might not be an overnight sensation but your CD has definitely impressed
me”.
I was
seriously considering adding some thoughts on favorite songs but the album
as a whole is too good to break down on an individual basis but if I can
add some thoughts on the songs I prefer over the other songs. I would have
to say the following songs are definitely worth checking out. “Night
& Day”, “Brother of Another Mother”, “I Can’t Wait”, “Jungle Jazz Juice”,
“Comeuppance”, “Complete”, “Universal Asshole” and my ultimate favorite
“Voices”. I could add more songs to this list but I would be listing the
whole album instead of a couple of songs of interest.
The
album ranks in the top three for discovered artist for 2005 by myself and
can only add I’m definitely awaiting their next album and have just one
request Black JU-JU please come to K Town.
