Boswalos a rising band from the Indie Canadian Music scene has released their first EP album which is simply self titled Boswalos.

Boswalos is a four member band that all have had music running through their vains for most of their lives. All the members have played in many different bands during their music careers. Bands that made little leeway and headroom for the guys, now Paul, David, Dave and Jason have come together and formed Boswalos. The Boswalos are always on the move and are showing great potential for themselves. As Boswalos they have played the MusicNL showcase and award show, traveled and played shows across Canada and the US. One of their notable shows in the US came when they played the legendary CBGB’s.

The 6 songs that are penned down and played on this album are “Under Black Lights”, “Pilots”, “Free”, “Seconds”, “Credo”, “Beautiful World”.

“Under Black Lights” opens up the album and also is the song that the band is leaning on as their first single off of the album. After listening to the album track by tracks a couple of times I would say this is my favourite song off of the album. There is a bit more strength in the song then the rest of the songs from the album. At the start of the song the bass guitar is very strong and the way that is played in sections throughout the song could be described as a heartbeat like sound. I also liked how the band breaks out and plays together between sections of the song. This song is greatly boosted a lot more by watching the band play the song live. Which can by viewed by visiting Boswalos.com. The song finishes out in a strong instrumental fashion.

If you are a listener who likes to hear a song that has a loud and heavy Bass Guitar sound to it then “Credo” is the song for you. After hearing the song for the first time I turned my sub up a few notches to get a better effect out of the song. “Credo” has a edgier sound to it with the vocals having a bit more of a raspy sound to it. In the middle of the song the vocals stops and the band lets their instruments do the talking for them and they play in a minute long jam. The small guitar riff that is played throughout the song but is most noticeable during the jam is pretty catchy. In some songs a minute long jam break wouldn’t work but in this song it works out great. The song finishes out with the forever reliable lyrics “It’s Just Rock’n’Roll”. This song would be the perfect song to play as their closing song to a live show, because it leaves you wanting more at the end of the song.

“Free” is a mild tempo song for the band. U2’s song “One” comes to my mind when I hear the opening riff of the song. I’m not quite sure why the guitar reminds me of U2 but the song just seems to pop into my head when I hear “Free” start. One of the strong points for the song is the vocals, how they are harmony like and how they build up the song. A small noticeable score of the song that I would like to mention is the guitar bend that is added to end of the opening guitar riff. The last minute and a half of the song is a carried out by the instruments, but what standouts to me is the pitch of the guitar playing what I find is really a perfect fit pitch for the song.
