Toronto
based Braintoy released their 5-song EP Tremors on the Indiepool label
in early 2005 and immediately followed through with a Canada/USA tour.
Stops included all the major markets eventually landing in Kingston, Ontario
along the way (atleast two stops to the Limestone City).
Braintoy
is Brett FitzGerald (Vocals), Riley O'Connor (Drums), Christian Anderson
(Guitars), and Devin Gasteiger (Bass and Keyboards).
Brett's
vocals in the opener As Am I has a slight hint of a young Freddie Mercury,
original lead singer of Queen, or even David Bowie. Heavy guitars plus
riveting bass and percussion is the sound of Braintoy.
You'll
soon discover Braintoy leans towards the dark side of today's metal yet
very articulate and unquestionable intelligent. Many references to society
including CrimethInc.
Destitutorial
comes out swinging with lyrics "...You can watch what you weigh. How you
look, what you see. I will long for the day, what I see is for real...".
It's a haunting song that's peppered by Devin's role on bass and keyboards.
Never
Goes Away is notably well mixed and produced as is the other tracks. Solid
guitars with an endless beat. Riley's percussion talents are highlighted
in Humour Me. Both are power-packed selections.
"...I'm
the fool again..." lyrics in Cul-De-Sac takes command of your senses accompanied
by Christian's phenomenal guitar playing. The slick riffs he's able to
pull out both on the album and live on stage is a show within a show.
The
4-fold liner notes in the jewel case opens into a Braintoy banner. One
of my first albums purchased, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, did that
so I wanted to share my appreciation for that artistic concept.
A very
good album and exceptional live stage show. Lots of options to purchase
the disc or download so go to http://www.braintoy.net
and explore the band and your options to buy.
