| Bullmoose
are a rock n roll band with strong roots in blues and funk, gushing with
jazz overtones and progressive tendencies based out of Montreal.
With
a sound that'll stop you quicker than Jose Theodore these lads are one
act you should keep youreyes peeled for.
Right
from the get go "Lessons Learned" catches the ear with the blaring wah
wah drenched rocker "Youngblood Blues". The songs solo shows that formidable
guitarist and frontman Eric Lawance certainly isn't shy when it comes to
ripping a facemelting lead when called upon. Guitarists are going to be
especially enamoured with Bullmoose as Lawance's tasty playing will certainly
turn more that a few of his fellow six stringers heads (check out the harmony
leads on "Pray"). Eric seems to seamlessly blend Jimi, Stevie Ray Vaughan,
and Jimmy Page with George Thorogood and Gordie Johnson inspired slide
work to create a style rarely heard in rock guitar these days.
One
that nods it's head to it's influences without sounding contrived or
derivative.
The word is original and needless to say we don't hear the term used often
enough in todays musical climate.
Jeff
Cowan's well schooled jazz inspired drumming and brother Seamus Cowan's
pounding bass are the perfect complement to Lawance's fiery guitar attack
adding that special colour and texture to the band's sound much like
adding the perfect blend of herbs and spices to KFC chicken... mmmm chicken...b
ah... my point is as good as frontman/guitarist Eric Lawance is by himself...
it is the shading that the Cowan brothers add that give it that extra something
that will keep you listening. See how it works kiddies... Eric sets the
hook and the Cowan brothers reel you in.... and take it from me once you
are hooked ...you'll be hooked for a while.
Having
shared the stage with Bullmoose I can tell you that as good an album as
"Lessons Learned" is... and it is good... you gotta see these guys live.
I know I say it alot but hell it's true... if you want to truely experience
a band in it's purest form go see them live.
