Greg was born in Pembroke Ontario. The band is the vision of Justin C.
Allard (drums, vocals), songwriter and founder of Greg Records who teamed
with Nelson Shamess (guitars, vocals) for the original tracks of this album
and develop their unique sound. Justin Smith (vocals, guitars) was added
to the mix and recording began spring of 2005. Joel Visutskie (bass, vocals)
brings effortless audio tech skills was the final piece of the puzzle.
Recorded
at Westworld Recording Studio in Pembroke, the 10-song album opens with
a driving guitar anthem "Runaway". "Feel This Way" is filled with rich
guitar solos and impressive drum work.
The
majority of the lead vocals from this album reminds me of ex-Midnight Oil's
Peter Garrett. Justin Smith has a unique sound with electic range; seeing
Cavity Greg live, Justin is a frontman's frontman by being more than a
lead singer but a storyteller holding your attention
Cavity
Greg prove they are not a one-trick pony on "Hey Girl" which is a fun number
yet uniquely dark with some really twisted lyrics.
The
standout track for me is "People In My Mind" with it's blend of harmonies
and fret work. The lyrics are quite deep but speaks clearly.
There’s
always people to talk to,
People
who I can be honest and true,
Not
people to sit they’re and judge me,
But
people who can re-assure me,
I
honestly do know that this ain’t all real,
I
like it and now the way I feel,
I
feel real and like just relieved,
Like
going to confessions if you believe.
"Hungry
Lady" is another attention grabber with it's brilliant guitar work. Being
able to sound fresh and like no other band is the primer but somehow shades
of Kansas, Boston and The Doobie Brothers come to mind while listening
to the solo in this one.
Nelson
Shamess lead guitar work on this album is quite impressive; Nelson and
Justin Smith share lead guitar duties during their live shows
