Dr. Jelly
Dr. Jelly
indie
2005
Recorded during the fall of 2005 live off the floor at Pappa D's Studio in Carrying Place, Dr. Jelly have recorded their first EP self-titled Dr. Jelly.

Four down to earth guys collectively called Dr. Jelly is Steve Sottile (bass, vocals), Jimmy Sander (drums), Dan Roud (vocals, rhythm guitar), and John Torres (vocals, lead guitar) who live in Kingston, Ontario and perform regionally.

Bringing together a broad variety of musical influences, Dr. Jelly forged a nice compliation of covers which originally appeared at one time or another on Top-10 chart lists.

"If You Want... A Medley", a tip of the hat to Motown and the legendary Marvin Gaye on "What's Goin' On?", "What Would You Say?", a unique cover of "Roxanne" and the funk-driven "Kissing My Love / Superstitious".

Shags (Dan Roud) has a great singing voice (reminds me of Jeff Healey) and really gets into each song here on the EP as he does on stage; pretty good vocal range singing each song passionately. Torres is certainly the showman of the band playing lead guitar and vocals on "Roxanne", "Kissing My Love" and "If You Want Me To Stay" plus bringing a wealth of talent; he also teaches guitar so if you live in Kingston and want to learn the basics to killer riffs from Clapton, Santana, or Hendrix he's your man. Sander is a perfectionist on drums as displayed in "What Would You Say?". Mom (Sottile) does what a band does off stage such as booking, endless phone calls, scheduling and so on; when that's all said and done he shares the fruit of his labour through his outstanding bass playing most notably on "Roxanne".

This is a fun cd and what matters most is the music. Enjoy!
