The debut album Bang! from Drowning Girl will leave you feeling Dead Or Alive.
Drowning Girl debut album is one that should be picked up. From influences such as Sloan, The Cure, The Kinks and The Velvet Underground Drowning Girl has created and album where there is almost something for everyone.

The members of Drowning Girls are Hill Kourkoutis on Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Synth and organs - David Paoli on Guitar, Vocals, Bass and Synth - Jesse Porter on Drums.
Dead Or Alive Blends the characteristics of many different genres which make the track pretty much irresistible as you listen to the album. This is just one of the couple of tracks that you have to listen to as you play “Bang!”. The first characteristic that draws out of Dead Or Alive is how much the influences of Drowning Girl shows up in their music. First off there the sound of The Cardigans and then another artist Sarah Slean seems to play out in the track, right down to the Keyboards at the beginning and how closely the vocals seem to sound very similar to that of Sarah’s. I am a fan of how there is a mix of the genres of the song where you have a light touch of Jazz with heavy influences of Pop, Rock, and Alternative. The vocal withstand and sounds stronger than the instruments in the song. Which in return makes Dead Or Alive rise above most of the tracks on the album. I also favour the almost unnoticeable guitar that plays in the background throughout the song. I would put this song as the second single release off of “Bang!”

The title track Bang! is my favourite song off this album next to Dead Or Alive. When I first listened to this song the song instantly became my favourite and made me repeat the song about three times afterwards. Right from the opening lyrics “You Know you’re love is like an H Bomb” the song I imagine when you listen to the song you will be a fan also. The lyrics and the drums are the hook for the song at the start of the song. The drums are a common drum beat which works perfectly in setting up the song. Unlike most of the songs on “Bang!” my attention is brought a little more to the instruments in this song instead of the vocals. The Chorus and most of the verses are a definite hit though mostly because they are easy to remember and to sing along to. The crashing of the cymbals near the ending of the song is a plus for me, I have always been a fan of the sound of crashing cymbals and this song delivers the sound beautifully.

Tragic Romantic has more of a Pop/Rock sound to it. This song adds a nice mix to the album, you could almost go ahead and say that this album is unpredictable as in you don’t know what type of genre the next song is going to be. The vocals seem to come across a little softer and smoother in Tragic Romantic than most of the other tracks on the album.

In the starting of Sugar Bowl another Toronto band seems to cross my mind as I listen to the song and that band would be The Golden Dogs.

The May Song finishes off the album on a complete different note then the rest of the album. Meaning the song for the most part is a Acoustic song. At about halfway through the song there is a bit of a pause and the song comes back but with a electric guitar playing. The track is much slower than the other tracks on the album. The song however is not to bad but I would have finished off the track when the acoustic guitar finished off.
