Grindig is a Toronto based band with a sound that is truly unique . Drawing from a wide variety of influences including reggae, latin, swing and ska Grindig is like no other.

Most people would peg Grindig as an alt rock band to simplify things however I'm not going to do that. I think that would cheapen Grindig's music. If I had to call it any one thing I would call it fun. "From the latino groove of the ultra catchy opener "Spinnin' and Skippin'" to the punky closer "Cabbagetown" the band shows something different on each track.Be sure to check out the album's third track "I Feel So Alive"in which vocalist /guitarist Derek Downham as he says in the song "sings with the strings like Johnny Winter".

My review copy was the original "indie" version of the album. There is a newer version of the album on Shoreline/EMI that contains an extra song called "Where We Get High" and an alternate version of the song "The Best Of You" the video of which garnered solid rotation on Muchmusic.Grindig has opened for Big Sugar and The Watchmen but more importantly they won the Canadian Music Week Xtreme Bandslam making them one of the hottest young acts in Canada. The band is quite fond of the road so don't miss them when they pass through a town near you.
