1, 2005. PartyInKingston.com is at The Scherzo Pub, 207 Wellington Street
for Kingston Punk Productions all-ages show Belvedere, fortycentfix, and
And Hell Followed.
My
first impression of fortycentfix? What the hell is that guy doing with
his tongue!? It only took me a few seconds to get past, John, the lead
singer/guitarist's tongue hanging out while he played. Still, I couldn't
stop giggling throughout. John, Eric, Drew and James had as much fun performing
as the audience had, as they screamed and jumped around. With the audience
interaction I found these boys to be very charismatic and John is very
easy going and great for a laugh. (with or without him). I find fortycentfix's
lyrics something that I, personally, desire and I'm sure that you will
as well. With three men up front, on vocals, I thought to myself, that's
different, I like it. Hotties. John is the lead vocalist on guitar with
James/Guitarist and Drew/Bassist also singing, and not to be forgotten,
Eric as the bands drummer. fortycentfix is local to Ontario and they will
pick up the music industry here with their evocative punk, their enthusiasm
and, above all, their ability to play an instrument. Just one thing boys,
I think your name is a bit "50 Cent" ish but I love ya' just the same.
And
Hell Followed would like to be the first band on Surreal life and the first
band to endorse Soy Milk. "We're here to put soul back into punk rock and
remind people why they liked it in the first place. We just want strangers
to feel what we feel and join us in celebrating music we love. ... and
kick some f***ing ass while we're at it." And Hell Followed, is a Toronto
(Bloor and Ossington) band that has been together for two years.
I loved their "look" and I also liked the fact that they aren't all 20
year olds who just picked up a guitar last week and this shows. Steve,
the drummer, sings along side of Mike, bassist/vocalist and this blew me
away. These guys aren't the standard 4 piece band with the lead guitarist
singing, they are 3 man piece with character. Lets not forget Ronan, an
amazing guitarist. I'd do them! I kept my eyes on Ronan and Mike's fingers
during their performance and coming from someone who has played both guitar
and bass I can say from experience that these men are very talented. I
didn't see the same ol' bullshit riffs again and again. I'm impressed and
I'm confident that you will be. Don't miss their next show in Kingston.

Belvedere
from Calgary was the night's Kingston Punk Productions headliner. Although
nearly half the crowd left before they hit the stage (all ages show, must
be a curfew thing) those hardcore punk fans were in for a loud and wild
show that only Belvedere can deliver. The four-piece band is Steve Rawles
(Vocals and Guitar), Jay (Bass and Vocals), Scott Solo (Guitars), and Graham
(Drums). Belvedere was playing selections from their lastest full length
release Fast Forward Eats The Tape their fifth album and current tour which
wraps this month in Quebec before heading back to Alberta for more dates.
Their latest Much Music video from Fast Forward Eats The Tape is Closed
Doors. Fan favourite tunes included Paradise, Brandy Wine and Slaves to
the Pavement. The band has been gigging for nine years and stops often
in Kingston while touring Ontario. Belvedere's sound and style reminds
me of Bad Religion. Their lyrics shoot from the hip taking no prisoners
and performed an exhilarating set before we left for the night.
About
120 music lovers packed the intimate Scherzo Pub located on Wellington
Street between Queen and Princess streets in downtown Kingston.
